COLOMBIA: Update From the Front

Updated: Sep 11, 2019

Please be in prayer for God's work being done in Columbia. The following is an update from a dear friend about some of the work that is being done there.

COLOMBIA!

Presenting the story of the crucifixion with Juan David’s family

Near the end of last year, one of the most wanted gang leaders in Medellín was arrested which led to a big increase in violence as the groups fought for leadership control. The other day, a bus was set on fire in front of our apartment building and Robledo Aures, the neighborhood where we do most of our discipleship's, has been greatly affected. There have been numerous murders each day, which have made the kids afraid to leave their houses to meet with us or go to school. There have been fewer deaths recently because one gang leader turned himself in and another was captured. Though we are careful when we go up to Robledo, the situation has given us an opportunity to share God’s hope amidst the suffering, and we know that ultimately, God is in control. Please continue to pray for safety and that our time there would be fruitful. Praise the Lord for Peter’s safe return from furlough and pray for Marissa who gets back next week! Also pray for Heidi as she is in Bogotá teaching until May 21st.

We have much to be thankful for in this season!

For the Kingdom,

Jamie

Left: Three weeks ago, I met a boy named Tomás up in Robledo. He was very interested in studying the Bible and has many questions. Pray for him and his brother, Santiago, as we start reading through the Story of Hope together.

Middle: Hanging out with Hannah

Right: The gang that Heidi and I study the Bible with every Monday night!
